Mission:

NAWBL VISION

For over 150 years, women have attempted to become a permanent part of America’s favorite national pastime as players, announcers, and even umpires, but are continuously faced with overwhelming obstacles of discrimination which have kept their attempts short-lived.  The history of women in baseball has been sporadic, but women continue to battle to gain their rightful place in the sport they love. Every professional women’s sport has had the opportunity to flourish except women’s baseball.  For this reason, the North American Women's Baseball League would like to help steer women’s baseball into the future.

The NAWBL serves as a developmental league that also provides an opportunity for elite players to compete both nationally and internationally for the NAWBL All-star team the Pioneers.  Since 2003, the Pioneers (formerly the Lady Spirit) have competed throughout the US, Canada, Japan and the Dominican Republic, in addition to hosting top teams from Japan and Australia.  During the past 6 years the Pioneers have maintained a winning percentage of over .500.  Through providing opportunities for girls and women of all ages to play baseball, it is our hope that baseball will join the ranks of other mainstream sports for females.  In the future we envision not only girls youth programs, but also high school and college baseball programs for women.  In due course, women's professional baseball will become a reality in America and, hopefully, all over the world.

What athletes learn, both winning and losing on and off the field, teaches the skills necessary to succeed in the business world.  Moreover, girls and women should be offered the same athletic opportunities as boys as  participation in athletics instills competitive drive, courage, discipline, and initiative, in addition to the benefits of physical fitness.

The NAWBL's goal is to have the finest female baseball players competing in the highest quality environment in addition to introducing new players to the game and helping them hone their skills.  As we enter our 7th season, we will take greater strides towards making baseball a mainstream sport for girls and women.  As we move foward, we will continue to support the unification of women’s baseball regionally, nationally, and internationally and give women their rightful place in America’s favorite pastime.

Thank you for your support.
